Generative AI or generative artificial intelligence
refers to the use of AI to create new content, like text,
images, music, audio, and videos.
Generative AI is powered by foundation models (large AI
models) that can multi-task and perform out-of-the-box
tasks, including summarization, Q&A, classification,
and more. Plus, with minimal training required, foundation
models can be adapted for targeted use cases with very
little example data.
How does generative AI
work?
Generative AI works by using an ML model to learn the
patterns and relationships in a dataset of human-created
content. It then uses the learned patterns to generate new
content.
The most common way to train a generative AI model is to
use supervised learning - the model is given a set of
human-created content and corresponding labels. It then
learns to generate content that is similar to the
human-created content and labeled with the same labels.
Common generative AI
applications
Generative AI processes vast content, creating insights
and answers via text, images, and user-friendly formats.
Generative AI can be used to:
- Improve customer interactions through enhanced chat and
search experiences
- Explore vast amounts of unstructured data through
conversational interfaces and summarizations
- Assist with repetitive tasks like replying to requests
for proposals (RFPs), localizing marketing content in five
languages, and checking customer contracts for compliance,
and more

How It Works
Generative AI is poised to usher in a new wave of
interactive, multimodal experiences that transform
how we interact with information, brands, and one
another. Harnessing the power of decades of Google’s
research, innovation, and investment in AI, Google
Cloud is bringing businesses and governments the
ability to generate text, images, code, videos,
audio, and more from simple natural language
prompts.
Generative AI revolutionizes how media
companies can help consumers find relevant
content to satisfy their in-the-moment needs.

improve the media content discovery journey.
Using conversational interactions, consumers
can receive highly personalized content and
service recommendations, including music,
video, and blogs.
The content discovery solution uses
Vertex AI Search and Conversation
as its core component, in addition to Vertex
AI LLM. Vertex AI Search and Conversation
enables developers to rapidly build and deploy
chatbots and search applications. With
step-by-step orchestration tools, even
developers with limited technical skills can
build and deploy gen apps in minutes.

The
Vertex AI Matching Engine
provides a powerful way of matching
unstructured data (images, text, and more) to
semantically similar items. The
Vertex AI Embedding Extractor
makes extracting embeddings fast and easy and
can be used for use cases like searching

Improve patient
experiences by unifying healthcare datasets
Navigating the healthcare system is complex.
Generative AI can lower barriers by providing
conversational search experiences, even in the
absence of structured and pre-curated
knowledge bases. This provides personalized
results which can include healthcare coverage.
In this demo, watch how a healthcare
organization can use
Vertex AI Search and Conversation
to build a single knowledge base from
disparate datasets, including customer and
vendor sources and internal documentation.
Healthcare
search and discovery solution architecture
The solution uses
Vertex AI Search and Conversation
as its core component. Vertex AI Search and
Conversation is a fast way for developers to
build and deploy chatbots and search
applications in minutes—even for those with
limited technical skills or who are new to AI.
With generative AI support in Vertex AI,
enterprises can tune Codey, a family of code
models built on PaLM 2, using their own code
base. Today, these customized
Codey models
are available in Vertex AI, and later this
year, they will be connected to the Duet AI
experience. Any code that’s used to tune Codey
will be kept private, and won’t be used in the
broader foundation model training corpus.
Plus, users will have transparency and control
over where data is stored and how or if it is
used.
